We left Paducah around 10:00 a.m. and headed toward home via the back road. We stopped at a local farmer's market and bought tomatoes and a whole box of okra they had just picked. The bridge across the Mississippi River heading into Charleston is still closed so we made the detour over to Cairo, IL and took that river bridge. This is only a few miles out of the way and it appears they may not open the old bridge. We stopped in Charleston, MO for gas and then went to lunch at a little local restaurant that we go to frequently when we are in that area. The food is good and it has local folks but we did not see anyone we knew this time around. After leaving Charleston we took another back road for some geocache hunting and ended up in Hayti then on over to Campbell and up to Poplar Bluff catching US 60 towards home. One of the geocache sites in Hayti was at the park and they had a grave of a lion, along with the tombstone, so I asked a local about the grave. She said the lion used to be in the park and was very old when he died and because he had been at the park for so many years they just decided to bury him there. We finally arrived home around 10:00 p.m. after a really great weekend trip.
